Sky-Watcher Skymax 180 Pro OTA

Designed for high-resolution observation, the Sky-Watcher Skymax 180 Pro OTA uses a 180 mm Maksutov-Cassegrain optical system with a 2700 mm focal length and f/15 focal ratio.

Its long focal length and high-contrast optics make it particularly suitable for detailed observation of the Moon, bright planets and close double stars. Its 180 mm aperture also provides useful light gathering for brighter galaxies and nebulae.

The low-expansion borosilicate primary mirror features Radiant Aluminum Quartz RAQ coatings with stated reflectivity of up to 94%, while the front meniscus incorporates Sky-Watcher MHTC multi-coatings.

Despite its 2700 mm focal length, the optical tube remains compact at only 52 cm long. A 2-inch star diagonal, two eyepieces and a 9 × 50 finderscope are supplied.

180 mm Maksutov-Cassegrain Optics

The optical system uses a 180 mm spherical primary mirror combined with a full-aperture meniscus corrector.

The Maksutov-Cassegrain design folds the optical path to provide a very long focal length within a much shorter optical tube.

2700 mm Focal Length at f/15

With its 2700 mm focal length and f/15 focal ratio, the Skymax 180 Pro is particularly suited to high-magnification observation.

This configuration is especially suitable for lunar detail, Jupiter, Saturn, Mars and close double stars.

Borosilicate Primary Mirror

The primary mirror is manufactured from low-expansion borosilicate glass.

This material reduces changes in mirror shape during cool-down and promotes greater optical stability.

Radiant Aluminum Quartz RAQ Coating

The primary and secondary mirrors feature Sky-Watcher Radiant Aluminum Quartz RAQ coatings.

The coating combines aluminium, tantalum pentoxide and silicon dioxide to provide stated reflectivity of up to 94% together with long-term optical protection.

MHTC Coating

The front meniscus features Sky-Watcher Metallic High-Transmission Coatings MHTC.

This multi-coating system is designed to optimise light transmission through the corrector.

2-Inch Star Diagonal

A 90° 2-inch star diagonal is supplied.

Adapters also allow standard 1.25-inch eyepieces to be used.

Two Supplied Eyepieces

Two eyepieces are included: a 25 mm LET and a 10 mm SP.

They provide magnifications of 108× and 270× respectively with the Skymax 180 Pro's 2700 mm focal length.

Integrated T2 Thread

The optical tube incorporates a T2 thread for attaching a compatible camera using the appropriate T-ring.

This connection is particularly useful for lunar and planetary imaging.

Internal Focusing

Focusing is achieved by internally moving the primary mirror using the focusing knob.

This arrangement maintains a compact mechanical design despite the telescope's very long focal length.

9 × 50 Finderscope

A fully multi-coated 9 × 50 optical finderscope is supplied.

Its crosshair reticle assists with locating and centring celestial objects.
