Description

The Vixen VMC200L is a professional Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope featuring a 200 mm aperture and 1950 mm focal length, tailored for detailed observation and astrophotography of planets, star clusters, and faint deep-sky objects. Its design eliminates the need for a heavy corrector plate by placing a meniscus lens directly in front of the secondary mirror. This makes the VMC lighter and less prone to dewing compared to conventional SCTs and Maksutovs.

Thanks to its open tube design, thermal equilibrium is reached quickly, allowing spontaneous observing sessions. The fixed primary mirror enhances focus stability and eliminates focus shift or mirror flop. The mirror’s surface is produced using a high-grade coating process, typically reserved for research instruments. Coupled with a field-flattening corrector, it delivers superb imaging and visual performance.

The rack-and-pinion focuser operates smoothly and can be upgraded with the optional Vixen dual-speed adapter (X000143). The telescope includes a Vixen-style dovetail, transport handle usable as an accessory platform, and a flip mirror diagonal with 1.25" and 2" eyepiece ports. These ports are T-threaded for direct camera mounting, making the switch from visual to imaging use quick and efficient.

The VMC200L offers 0.45" resolution, 816x light-gathering power over the naked eye, and a limiting magnitude of 13.3. With a compact form and advanced performance, it’s a reliable companion for demanding astronomers and mobile astrophotographers.
