The Berlebach Graviton tripod with base for the iOptron CEM120 is designed for heavy astronomical mounts. Its massive ash wood construction provides excellent vibration damping and a load capacity of 220 kg.
The Berlebach Graviton is a high-end astronomy tripod developed to provide a mobile support solution for very large and heavy telescope mounts. This version is equipped with a base suitable for the iOptron CEM120 mount.
The Graviton is constructed with massive leg segments made from high-quality ash wood. Berlebach states that it provides the best vibration damping of all its tripods. The manufacturer's documentation specifies an exceptionally large wood cross-section of 5350 mm². The large volume of ash dissipates vibrations efficiently through the naturally open-pored structure of the material while also providing a large clamping surface.
The leg clamping system incorporates a specific design to accommodate the natural characteristics of wood. Ash is hygroscopic and therefore absorbs and releases moisture depending on ambient conditions, resulting in slight dimensional changes. Berlebach uses a large leaf spring within the clamping mechanism to compensate for these variations.
The lever arm of the clamping element can be unfolded to increase the applied force. According to Berlebach documentation, the extended lever provides fourfold force transmission, allowing powerful clamping with reduced effort.
In addition to the clamping mechanism, an integrated toothed rack with 5 mm steps provides additional mechanical security. Combined with its locking mechanism, the rack effectively prevents the tripod legs from collapsing even when the clamping elements are open. This is particularly important when supporting heavy astronomical mounts and instruments.
The foot tips incorporate a fine levelling system with 20 mm of adjustment travel. This allows precise levelling of the tripod after it has been positioned on the observing site.
The leg spread is also adjustable. Current Berlebach documentation specifies four spread positions providing angles from approximately 20 to 33 degrees. This allows the Graviton footprint and operating height to be adapted to different installation conditions.
The main metal components are CNC machined from solid material. This construction provides precise guidance, secure and powerful clamping, and mechanical performance suitable for heavy loads.
With a specified load capacity of 220 kg, the Graviton is designed for particularly heavy astronomical configurations. Berlebach specifically lists the WS 240 GT, Astro-Physics 1200 GTO, ASA DDM85 and 10Micron GM3000 among suitable heavy mounts.
The tripod has a minimum height of 86 cm and a maximum height of 135 cm. Its packed transport length is 91 cm.
A tray and spread stopper are included with the tripod.
This version with a base for the iOptron CEM120 therefore provides a particularly robust support solution for this mount while benefiting from the high load capacity and vibration damping characteristics of the Berlebach Graviton.
