Dual-purpose H-alpha and white-light solar telescope with a 40 mm ED objective. The Acuter LUMA-X 40ED provides a bandwidth below 0.6 Å, 250 mm focal length at f/6.25, pressure tuning and a system for white-light sunspot observation.
Designed for both H-alpha and white-light solar observation, the Acuter LUMA-X 40ED combines two solar observing modes in a compact 40 mm instrument.
Its dual-switch diagonal system allows the telescope to transition from H-alpha observation of prominences and other solar details to white-light observation of sunspots.
The objective incorporates one ED glass element intended to enhance image sharpness, contrast, colour accuracy and detail.
For H-alpha observation, the LUMA-X 40ED uses a 40 mm front-mounted etalon with a bandwidth below 0.6 Å and pressure tuning.
For white-light observation, internally mounted green and neutral-density filters allow sunspots to be observed.
With a 250 mm focal length and f/6.25 focal ratio, the telescope remains particularly compact, with an optical tube length of only 275 mm and a weight of 1.9 kg.
Dual H-alpha and White-Light Observation
The LUMA-X 40ED is designed for two types of solar observation:
• H-alpha
• White light
Its exclusive dual-switch diagonal system allows transition between the two modes.
In H-alpha, the telescope reveals activity in the solar chromosphere.
In white light, it can be used for sunspot observation.
40 mm ED Objective
Objective diameter is:
• 40 mm
It incorporates an ED glass element.
This element contributes to improved:
• Sharpness
• Contrast
• Colour accuracy
• Detail
40 mm Front-Mounted H-alpha Etalon
The H-alpha system uses a front-mounted etalon with a diameter of:
• 40 mm
Its bandwidth is:
• Less than 0.6 Å
This narrow bandwidth allows a range of solar activity to be observed.
Chromosphere Observation
In H-alpha, the LUMA-X 40ED can reveal:
• Solar flares
• Prominences
• Spicules
• Surface granularity
• Sunspots
• Other solar details
Pressure Tuning
The etalon uses a pressure-tuning system.
This allows the filter performance to be adjusted for H-alpha observation.
White-Light Sunspot Observation
The LUMA-X 40ED also incorporates:
• Green filter
• Neutral-density filter
These filters are internally mounted and are used for white-light sunspot observation.
8 mm Blocking Filter
The solar system includes an:
• 8 mm blocking filter
This filter is installed in the removable solar diagonal and forms part of the telescope's safety system.
90° Solar Diagonal
The LUMA-X 40ED is equipped with a solar diagonal:
• Angle : 90°
• Fitting : 1.25 inch
For solar observing, this diagonal forms an integral part of the instrument's safety system.
250 mm Focal Length
Telescope focal length is:
• 250 mm
Focal ratio is:
• f/6.25
5–16 mm Zoom Eyepiece
A 1.25-inch zoom eyepiece is supplied.
Its focal-length range is:
• 5 to 16 mm
With the supplied eyepiece, magnification ranges from:
• 15.6x
• 50x
Safe Solar Finder
A dedicated safe solar finder is supplied.
It allows the Sun to be located without looking directly through a conventional optical finder.
Light Shield
A light shield is supplied to improve comfort during solar observation.
Crayford Focuser
Focusing is provided by a:
• Crayford focuser
Solar Imaging Compatibility
The telescope can be used with CCD cameras fitted with a:
• 1.25-inch adaptor
Camera backfocus must be:
• 25 mm or less
Smartphone Adaptor Included
A universal smartphone adaptor is supplied.
It allows solar photographs to be taken with a smartphone for recording observations.
45 mm Dovetail Bar
The optical tube features a side-mounted:
• 45 mm dovetail bar
It also includes a:
• 1/4-20 tripod thread
SolarQuest Mount Recommended
The Sky-Watcher SolarQuest is listed as the recommended solar GoTo and tracking mount for the LUMA-X 40ED.
Compact Design
Optical tube length:
• 275 mm
Optical tube weight:
• 1.9 kg
Hard Carrying Case Included
A hard-shell carrying case is supplied to protect the telescope and accessories during storage and transport.
Solar Compliance
The LUMA-X 40ED meets the transmission requirements of:
• ISO 12312-2:2015
This certification concerns filters intended for direct observation of the Sun.
Solar Safety
Extreme caution is essential whenever observing the Sun.
The 8 mm blocking filter installed in the removable eyepiece diagonal forms part of the LUMA-X 40ED safety system.
For solar observing, the telescope must not be used with another type of diagonal.
Incorrect solar observing practices can result in serious and permanent eye damage.
