Askar N160 F3.4 Newton Astrograph Telescope

Description

The Askar N160 is a high-performance Newtonian astrograph engineered to meet the requirements of modern deep-sky astrophotography. With a 160 mm aperture and a focal length of 544 mm when used with the supplied 0.95× coma corrector, it operates at a remarkably fast focal ratio of F3.4, allowing shorter exposure times while maximizing light collection.

The telescope features a precision parabolic primary mirror that provides excellent optical performance. The supplied triplet 0.95× coma corrector reduces the native focal length from 576 mm to 544 mm while effectively correcting off-axis aberrations, producing sharp stellar images across an APS-C imaging sensor.

Its optical tube is entirely manufactured from high-quality carbon fiber. This material combines exceptional rigidity with low weight while offering an extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion. As a result, focus remains highly stable despite temperature variations, making the telescope particularly suitable for long imaging sessions.

The precision focuser incorporates both coarse and fine adjustment controls, enabling extremely accurate focusing. Its integrated rotating mechanism allows the camera orientation to be adjusted without disturbing the optical train. Multiple locking screws ensure excellent rigidity once the desired focus position has been reached.

The focuser has also been designed to accommodate an electronic autofocus motor. Dedicated mounting points are already integrated into the focuser body, allowing straightforward installation of compatible focusing systems.

The optical corrector provides an M48×0.75 rear thread and a standard 55 mm back focus measured from the M48 thread. To help achieve optimum spacing with different imaging configurations, the telescope includes precision stainless-steel shims in 0.1 mm, 0.2 mm and 0.3 mm thicknesses, allowing extremely accurate back focus adjustment.

A factory-installed finder base is integrated into the optical tube, making it easy to install a finder scope, guide scope or other compatible accessories.

The optical tube is supported by two robust tube rings mounted on a 230 mm Vixen dovetail plate. A multifunction carrying handle connects both rings while also providing additional mounting positions for astrophotography accessories.

The primary mirror height can be adjusted to optimize the focal plane position and is secured by dedicated locking screws once the adjustment has been completed. The secondary mirror also features precision collimation screws. According to the manufacturer, every telescope is factory collimated before shipment, although minor adjustments may occasionally be required after transportation.

Designed specifically for astrophotographers, the Askar N160 combines a fast optical system, lightweight carbon fiber construction, excellent mechanical rigidity and broad compatibility with modern astronomical imaging equipment, making it an outstanding solution for high-quality deep-sky imaging.
