The DayStar Filters SR127QT Prominance Solar Telescope is a professional dedicated H-alpha narrowband instrument designed for detailed observation and imaging of solar prominences, filaments, spicules, and dynamic chromospheric structures.
Its optical system is built around a 127 mm achromatic doublet specifically designed, figured, and coated for the Hydrogen Alpha wavelength (656.28 nm). This wavelength-optimized design ensures maximum transmission and minimal aberration within the narrow H-alpha spectral band, providing high-contrast and high-resolution solar imaging.
The carbon fiber optical tube assembly (OTA) ensures mechanical rigidity, thermal stability, and lightweight handling. The material minimizes expansion under heat, maintaining precise focus and consistent collimation during extended observation sessions.
The SR127QT integrates a complete Quantum filtering system permanently installed within the optical assembly. This system includes:
A thermally stabilized etalon precisely tuned for H-alpha;
An internal telecentric barlow lens;
A built-in blocking filter;
An electronic PID-controlled thermal regulation module.
The tuning system provides an adjustable ±1 Å shift range around the central wavelength (6562.8 Å) with 0.01 Å precision. The user can thermally fine-tune the etalon to visualize different layers of the chromosphere, ensuring accurate and repeatable alignment of the transmission peak.
The integrated telecentric optical configuration delivers a parallel, collimated light path required for narrow bandpass uniformity across the entire field of view. This setup maintains a stable effective bandpass of 0.5–1 Å throughout the image plane, ensuring consistent contrast from center to limb.
A robust 2-inch steeltrack rack-and-pinion focuser provides smooth, precise focusing with high load-bearing capacity. It supports motorized focusing systems from third-party manufacturers (6 mm and 4 mm shaft compatibility).
The instrument reaches focus with:
1.25″ and 2″ eyepieces,
ToUCam, Lumenera, SBIG, SLR, DSLR*,
CCTV or afocal imaging setups.
Recommended eyepieces include the Tele Vue 55 mm Plössl for full-disk views, and Tele Vue 32 mm or 40 mm Plössl for higher magnification.
The SR127QT is 100% solar-safe. All optical elements are permanently integrated, providing complete blocking of harmful solar radiation. The built-in white-light solar finder is also fully filtered and aligned, ensuring safe and precise solar centering.
Power is supplied via 12 V DC (120 mA), with a total consumption of 1.5 W. The telescope includes a universal 120–240 V AC adapter and supports field operation using standard 12 V battery systems. The electronic control and optics operate in an ambient temperature range of 20–100 °F.
Optical performance features include <0.6% image distortion, and compatibility with an optional focal reducer reducing the effective focal length from 2667 mm to 1355 mm, expanding field coverage for full-disk imaging.
The retractable dew shield enhances portability, while the supplied mounting rings with Vixen-style dovetail ensure secure mounting on equatorial or photo tripods.
Each unit is manufactured in the USA at DayStar Filters’ vertically integrated facility, where optical, mechanical, and thermal components are assembled and tested by in-house specialists to guarantee maximum performance and reliability.
