The DayStar Filters Sol 100 mm Dedicated Solar Telescope Chromosphere is a fully integrated professional Hydrogen Alpha telescope optimized for viewing the solar chromosphere.
Its clean-sheet design improves upon the Quark by integrating the Barlow lens and focuser drawtube, making the optical train compact, rigid, and perfectly aligned.
The Quark is bolted into the telescope — it cannot be removed accidentally, ensuring total safety during outreach. The Barlow and blocking filter are integral to the system’s internal structure.
Every lens is specifically optimized for 656 nm, achieving perfect telecentric parallelism for a narrow 0.5 Å FWHM bandpass at a faster focal ratio. Despite its 100 mm aperture, it provides a 0.75° full-disk field of view, ideal for complete solar disk observation.
Unlike multi-purpose night telescopes designed for 500 nm, the Sol 100 is coated and tuned exclusively for H-alpha. Its focusing system eliminates sensitivity issues common to external Quark setups.
The DayStar dual-speed 12:1 helical rack-and-pinion focuser ensures smooth, accurate control and compatibility with most focus motors (6 mm and 4 mm shafts, three M4 mounts). It provides the full focus range from 2″ diagonal visual to direct camera imaging.
The built-in solar finder embedded in the tube rings is permanently aligned with the optical axis for effortless pointing.
Constructed from CNC-machined aluminum, the Sol 100 is the lightest 100 mm narrowband solar telescope ever made, weighing only 3.6 kg and measuring 49–61 cm, small enough for airline carry-on luggage.
It features PID electronic thermal tuning (±0.5 Å), with a 5-minute settling time, powered by USB 5 V 1.5 A (micro-B). Includes universal 90–240 V AC adapter with global plug set (US, UK, EU, AU).
Included: Vixen/¼-20 mounting rings with integrated solar finder, retractable dew shield, flat imaging cap diffuser, USB and AC cables, 1.25″ adapter, covers, handle, and hard case.
Fully compatible with DayStar Quark accessories, including 2″ eyepiece adapters, tilt adapters, focal reducers, and batteries.
