Description
The DayStar Filters Sol 80 mm Dedicated Solar Telescope Prominance is a professional integrated Hydrogen Alpha (656.28 nm) telescope optimized for solar prominence observation.
It allows viewing of dynamic edge phenomena — prominences, flares, spicules — and surface features of the chromosphere in real time.
Manufactured entirely in the USA at DayStar’s vertically integrated facility, the Sol 80 is precision-built using advanced CNC machining to ensure optical alignment and durability.
Its 80 mm aperture and 1400 mm effective focal length (f/17.5) provide high resolution and full-disk views. The integrated 4.3× telecentric Barlow delivers uniform illumination for visual use.
The dual-speed 12:1 helical rack-and-pinion focuser, made by DayStar, offers smooth, accurate focusing with a locking brake and stainless-steel gears for longevity. It is compatible with third-party focus motors (6 mm and 4 mm shafts, three M4 holes, 34 mm cone diameter).
Included accessories: mounting rings, Vixen dovetail with ¼-20 thread, carry handle with built-in solar finder, caps, Flat Cap for imaging, AC adapter (90–240 V), USB 5 V 1.5 A cable, 1.25″ adapter, hard case.
Electronic PID thermal tuning allows ±0.5 Å manual control in 0.1 Å steps. Settling time is about 5–6 minutes after startup or tuning change.
Focus travel is optimized for camera or visual use via 2″ diagonal.
The dew shield is locking and retractable, and the CNC-machined tube is lightweight and sturdy.
Fully compatible with DayStar Quark accessories, including 2″ adapters, tilt adapters, focal reducers and battery packs.
