DayStar Quark Gemini CHRO-PRO
New product
The DayStar Quark Gemini is a dual-etalon H-alpha solar filter that combines both Prominence and Chromosphere modes in a single device. With a built-in telecentric system and an easy side lever, it allows instant switching between solar surface and limb observations without refocusing or changing equipment.

The DayStar Quark Gemini revolutionizes solar observation by integrating two independent Fabry-Perot etalons within a single housing. This design allows observers to switch instantly between the Chromosphere mode, which highlights fine surface details such as filaments and granulation, and the Prominence mode, which reveals bright, extended structures above the solar limb.
The transition between modes is achieved through a simple side-mounted lever, requiring no refocusing or optical adjustment.
A built-in 4.2x telecentric barlow, precisely optimized for the 656.28 nm Hydrogen Alpha wavelength, ensures a flat, evenly illuminated field. The dual etalon configuration provides both a narrow and a wide bandpass, balancing brightness and contrast for detailed imaging or visual work.
The Gemini is compatible with refractors from f/4 to f/8 and includes integrated baffling, a 12 mm blocking filter, brass compression rings, and LED indicators for operational status (heating, ready, fault). Power is supplied via USB 5 V / 2 A, and the system consumes very little energy, allowing a full day’s operation using an optional compact battery pack.
For refractors of 80 mm aperture or larger, an ERF (Energy Rejection Filter) is strongly recommended to prevent internal heat buildup and to maintain thermal stability during long observation sessions.
Each Gemini unit is assembled, calibrated, and tested by DayStar Instruments (USA) to meet strict optical standards. The filter ships in a watertight Pelican-style case for safe transport and dust-free storage, making it ideal for both professional and outreach use.
