The Baader Planetarium Solar Continuum 7.5 nm 2 inch filter is designed for visual and photographic observation of the solar photosphere in white light. Centered at 540 nm, it isolates the spectral range where optical systems perform best and where human eye sensitivity peaks.
The narrow 7.5 nm bandwidth suppresses unwanted wavelengths, increasing contrast and improving image sharpness. Fine solar details such as sunspots are rendered with enhanced clarity, as demonstrated in the provided images.
Operating as a monochromatic filter, it is ideal for monochrome cameras while remaining usable with color cameras. In color systems, only the green channel is used, reducing effective resolution but preserving contrast and sharpness improvements.
The filter is particularly effective with achromatic optics, selecting their optimal performance range. It also benefits apochromatic, catadioptric and mirror systems by reducing atmospheric turbulence effects.
Reflex Blocker coatings reduce halos and reflections, while Life Coat ensures long term durability. Standard thickness maintains parfocality. Blackened edges minimize internal reflections.
For visual solar observation, the filter must only be used with a proper solar safety system such as a Herschel wedge with ND3 filter or AstroSolar ND 5.0 film. The filter must always be installed after the main solar filter.
