GSO RC 254/2000 Truss Carbon OTA

Overview

The GSO RC 254/2000 Truss Carbon OTA is a premium astrograph for astrophotographers using APS-C or full-frame sensors. The Ritchey-Chrétien design, based on hyperbolic mirrors, delivers a coma-free and flat field without spherical aberration — making it ideal for high-end deep-sky imaging.

Its carbon fiber truss construction ensures mechanical and thermal stability throughout long sessions, keeping focus steady even under night-time cooling.

Technical specifications

  • Optical design: Ritchey-Chrétien (hyperbolic mirrors)

  • Aperture: 254 mm

  • Focal length: 2000 mm

  • F-ratio: f/8

  • Primary mirror: hyperbolic BK7, 94% reflectivity

  • Secondary mirror: 105 mm diameter, hyperbolic

  • Central obstruction: ~41%

  • Backfocus: approx. 254 mm from rear flange

  • Structure: carbon truss with CNC-machined aluminum ends

  • Weight: approx. 15.2 kg

  • Focuser: 3" Monorail, 1:10 micro reduction, 2" and 1.25" adapters

  • Accessories:

    • Losmandy rails (top and bottom)

    • Extension rings for backfocus adjustment

    • Mirror dust covers

Optical performance

  • Field correction: native coma-free and flat field

  • Field flattener: optional, recommended for full-frame sensors

  • Sensor compatibility: APS-C, full frame, up to 43 mm

  • Use cases:

    • Galaxy clusters, planetary nebulae, compact nebulae

    • Scientific photometry, spectroscopy

    • Ideal for fixed observatories or mobile observatories with good setup

Mount compatibility

To fully exploit this OTA’s capabilities, it must be installed on a robust equatorial mount with excellent guiding and payload stability.

iOptron mounts:

  • CEM70/CEM70G – 31.8 kg capacity, portable yet stable

  • CEM120/CEM120EC – 52 kg capacity, for fixed or semi-permanent setups

10Micron mounts:

  • GM1000 HPS – high accuracy tracking with absolute encoders

  • GM2000 HPS II Combi – ideal for permanent installations

  • GM3000 HPS – for dual setups or additional heavy equipment
