Description

The Antlia OIII 4.5 nm EDGE 50 mm unmounted filter is a narrowband filter designed for astrophotography of deep-sky objects containing OIII emissions. Its 500.7 nm central wavelength and 4.5 nm full width at half maximum effectively isolate ionized oxygen emission to improve image contrast and signal-to-noise ratio.

Antlia specifies peak transmission greater than 85% at 500.7 nm and guarantees transmission greater than 85% within a 1 nm range of the center bandwidth. This allows the filter to maintain high transmission with both long focal ratio instruments and fast optical systems.

Antlia's blue-shift data indicates that 4.5 nm EDGE filters can be used with nearly all optical systems down to f/3 with minimal loss of emission signal.

The filter's steep spectral profile helps minimize halos around bright stars. Its construction uses a single, non-glued optical substrate to eliminate internal reflections.

This 50 mm version is supplied without a filter cell. Like all Antlia unmounted filters, its edge is blackened to reduce internal reflections caused by stray light.

Out-of-band blocking is greater than OD5 from 300 to 1000 nm. Combined with the narrow 4.5 nm bandpass, this blocking performance improves image contrast and reduces interference from unwanted wavelengths.

The filter can be used at both light-polluted and dark-sky locations. Its narrow bandpass also extends useful imaging time when the Moon is present.

It is particularly suitable for imaging OIII emission nebulae, planetary nebulae, Wolf-Rayet nebulae and supernova remnants. The filter is only effective for deep-sky objects containing OIII emissions.

Antlia also states that the filter's optical reliability helps reduce the amount of post-processing required for astronomical images.

This filter is not recommended for solar imaging or night visual observation. It must never be used to look directly at the Sun.
