The Antlia H-alpha 4.5 nm EDGE 50 mm unmounted filter provides over 90% transmission at 656.3 nm. Designed for narrowband astrophotography, it is suitable for optical systems down to f/3.
The Antlia H-alpha 4.5 nm EDGE 50 mm unmounted filter is designed for narrowband astrophotography of deep-sky objects containing H-alpha emissions. Its 656.3 nm central wavelength and 4.5 nm full width at half maximum effectively isolate H-alpha emission to provide high contrast and an excellent signal-to-noise ratio.
Antlia guarantees transmission greater than 90% within a 1 nm range of the center bandwidth. This characteristic allows the filter to maintain high transmission with both long focal ratio instruments and fast optical systems.
Antlia's blue-shift data indicates that 4.5 nm EDGE filters can be used with nearly all optical systems down to f/3 with minimal loss of emission signal.
The filter's steep spectral profile helps minimize halos around bright stars. Its construction uses a single, non-glued optical substrate to eliminate internal reflections.
This 50 mm version is supplied without a filter cell. Like all Antlia unmounted filters, its edge is blackened to reduce internal reflections caused by stray light.
Out-of-band blocking is greater than OD5 from 300 to 1000 nm. Combined with the narrow 4.5 nm bandpass, this blocking performance improves image contrast and suppresses unwanted wavelengths.
The filter can be used at both light-polluted and dark-sky locations. Its narrow bandpass also extends useful imaging time when the Moon is present.
It is particularly suitable for imaging H-alpha emission nebulae, planetary nebulae, Wolf-Rayet nebulae and supernova remnants. The filter is effective only for deep-sky objects containing H-alpha emissions.
Each Antlia filter is individually tested and scanned under strict quality control to ensure compliance with the manufacturer's performance parameters.
This filter is not recommended for solar imaging or night visual observation. It must never be used to look directly at the Sun.
