DESCRIPTION
The Rowan Astronomy belt drive kit replaces the factory spur gear mechanism in the HEQ5 Pro mount with a precision-engineered 6 mm timing belt system. This conversion eliminates gear noise and reduces tracking errors caused by mechanical backlash, significantly improving mount performance for both observing and astrophotography.
The pulley ratio is identical to the original gear setup, so no changes are required in the SynScan hand controller or firmware. All GoTo and tracking functions are retained. The kit is completely reversible and requires no permanent modifications to the mount’s structure in most cases.
Each component is specifically machined by Rowan Astronomy to fit the HEQ5 mount perfectly. The kit includes two 47-tooth pulleys, two 9-tooth pulleys, two belts, two idler rollers with 5 mm shafts, an 8 mm acrylic spacer, and all necessary stainless steel bolts.
Older mounts with a hexagonal transfer shaft may require slight adaptation (drilling or shortening an idler pin). Newer models with a round shaft install directly with no changes.
