Description

Perseus by 10Micron is an advanced astronomical simulation software designed for Windows-based systems. It allows users to reproduce realistic sky views from any position on Earth, in space, or on other celestial bodies, across a very wide time range. Real-time animations are supported, relying on recent astronomical databases that provide access to a vast amount of data through an intuitive interface.

The graphical engine delivers highly realistic representations of astronomical phenomena, including nebulae, galaxies, star clusters, planets and their satellites, with accurate rendering of shadows, phases, rotations and apparent motion. Atmospheric effects such as dawn, dusk and refraction are simulated according to user-defined temperature, pressure and elevation.

The stellar database is based on Hipparcos, Tycho, Tycho II, ACT, GSC, SAO, PPM, GCVS and WDS catalogues, totaling more than 18 million stars with multiple designations. Non-stellar objects are drawn from Messier, NGC, IC, UGC, PGC LEDA, Barnard, Abell, van den Bergh and Sharpless catalogues, counting over 200000 objects. The software includes full Solar System simulation, asteroids, comets and artificial satellites based on user-supplied TLE data.

Perseus includes numerous observation and planning tools such as night vision mode, supernova maps, lunar calendars, altitude charts, eclipse calculations and customizable sky annotations. Telescope control is supported for 10Micron mounts via ASCOM and for Meade LX200 systems.

Perseus Level III adds access to more than 15 million objects, telescope control features, free upgrades, support for USNO A and UCAC 2 catalogues, and a dedicated scripting system for creating lessons, presentations and animated sequences, including AVI video export. The software is supplied on DVD ROM with a printable user manual.
