Description
The ADPS VII system is a complete and rigid assembly designed for precise afocal projection with digital cameras or camcorders. This specific version features an M36.4 thread on the telescope side, offering direct compatibility with optical systems from Vixen, Takahashi and Lichtenknecker. It provides a precise mechanical and optical interface for afocal imaging, ensuring optimal distance control and eliminating vignetting or image blur.
Afocal photography involves placing an eyepiece between the telescope and the fixed lens of a digital camera to project an enlarged image onto the sensor. This technique requires very tight tolerances, particularly with compact or bridge cameras that do not allow lens removal. Unlike the OPFA systems for DSLRs, the ADPS system is specifically engineered to minimize the distance between the eyepiece and the front element of the camera lens, enabling a clean, bright and well-framed image.
The ADPS VII includes two main components:
The ADPS IV base version, with T-2i male thread on the camera side and integrated sliding focuser
The M36.4a to T-2a adapter on the telescope side for mechanical compatibility with M36.4 threads
The sliding focuser includes a T-2 locking ring and allows insertion of a standard 31.75 mm projection eyepiece (not included). Three T-2 extension tubes are provided (2 x 15 mm and 1 x 7.5 mm) to fine-tune the projection distance between the eyepiece and the camera lens. This modularity ensures optimal optical projection and prevents any vignetting or edge distortion.
The locking ring also allows continuous rotation of the camera around the optical axis, enabling the user to adjust framing without compromising alignment. The system’s mechanical rigidity ensures that the setup remains stable throughout the exposure process.
To connect the camera, a front thread on the lens is required. If not present, a filter adapter ring (usually proprietary) must be sourced from the camera dealer. Once this thread is in place, a suitable Baader DT-ring or DT-I adapter can be used to complete the configuration.
The ADPS VII is designed for demanding users who require a solid, modular and precisely aligned solution for afocal projection, especially on optical systems with M36.4 threading.
