80 mm wide-field achromatic refractor with a 400 mm focal length and f/5 focal ratio. The Sky-Watcher StarTravel 80 AZ3 includes an AZ3 alt-azimuth mount, two Plössl eyepieces, 2× Barlow lens and red-dot finder.
Designed for wide-field observation, the Sky-Watcher StarTravel 80 AZ3 uses an 80 mm achromatic objective with a short 400 mm focal length and fast f/5 focal ratio.
Its wide field is particularly suited to nebulae, star fields, clusters, galaxies, comets and general observation of the Moon and bright planets.
The AZ3 alt-azimuth mount incorporates slow-motion controls in both altitude and azimuth for easier manual pointing and tracking.
Two 26 mm and 12.5 mm Plössl eyepieces and a 2× Barlow lens are supplied. The optical tube also provides direct connection for a compatible SLR camera.
80 mm Achromatic Objective
The StarTravel 80 uses an air-spaced two-element achromatic objective.
This design reduces chromatic aberration compared with a single lens while retaining the very fast f/5 focal ratio.
Short 400 mm Focal Length
With a focal length of only 400 mm, the StarTravel 80 provides a particularly wide field of view.
This makes it well suited to exploring large star fields, open clusters and extended deep-sky objects.
Multi-Coated Objective
The objective features multi-coatings designed to improve light transmission.
Sky-Watcher states 77% greater light-gathering capability than a 60 mm refractor.
AZ3 Alt-Azimuth Mount
The AZ3 Deluxe mount provides movement in both altitude and azimuth.
Slow-motion controls on both axes assist with precise centring and manual tracking.
Two Plössl Eyepieces and 2× Barlow
Two 1.25-inch Plössl eyepieces of 26 mm and 12.5 mm are supplied.
Together with the included 2× Barlow lens, they provide magnifications of 15.4×, 30.8×, 32× and 64×.
Direct Camera Connection
The optical tube supports direct connection to a compatible SLR camera.
Its fast f/5 focal ratio can also be used for wide-field photography, lunar or solar eclipse photography with appropriate safety equipment, and terrestrial photography.
Red-Dot Finder
A red-dot finder is supplied to assist with initial telescope pointing.
