The Celestron aluminum dew shield protects 14 inch telescopes from dew and stray light. Its velvet-lined interior improves contrast, while the included aluminum cover cap protects the optics from dust.
The Celestron Aluminum Dew Shield with Cover Cap is specifically designed for Celestron 14 inch Schmidt-Cassegrain and EdgeHD 14 inch optical tubes as well as the 36 cm RASA. For Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes, Celestron specifies compatibility with models manufactured after 2006.
The dew shield reduces radiative cooling of the Schmidt corrector lens toward the night sky. This helps keep the corrector from reaching the dew point as quickly and therefore helps prevent condensation from forming on its surface.
It also provides effective protection against stray light. By extending beyond the front of the optical tube, the shield prevents off-axis light from entering the optical system, helping improve contrast during both visual observing and astrophotography.
The dew shield consists of a rigid aluminum cylinder designed not to fold, flex or deform. Its interior surface is lined with velvet to absorb additional stray light and excess moisture.
Two adjustable clips secure the dew shield to the optical tube, providing a snug fit while allowing straightforward installation and removal.
An integrated cable management slot is located at the base of the dew shield. It simplifies cable routing when using a Schmidt-Cassegrain or EdgeHD telescope in a Fastar or Hyperstar configuration or when imaging with the 36 cm RASA. The slot can also accommodate cables from Celestron Dew Heater Rings while helping prevent unwanted light from entering the telescope.
Cutouts are provided to accommodate dovetail rails installed on the top and bottom of the optical tube, ensuring proper fit with different telescope configurations.
An aluminum cover cap is included. When the telescope is not in use, the cap protects the Schmidt corrector from dust particles. For astrophotography, the cover can also be used to quickly and conveniently acquire dark calibration frames.
Two adhesive Celestron logo labels are also supplied and can be applied to the dew shield.
The dew shield can be combined with the Celestron 14 inch Dew Heater Ring and Smart DewHeater and Power Controllers to further optimize dew prevention during observing and imaging sessions.
