Compact and highly portable, the Sky-Watcher AZ-GTiX WiFi Dual Saddle is a GoTo alt-azimuth mount designed to carry one or two telescopes.

The mount head weighs only 2 kg and can be attached to a compatible tripod through its standard 3/8-inch tripod bush.

Its built-in Wi-Fi module creates its own wireless network. The mount can therefore be controlled directly from a smartphone or tablet using the free SynScan app for iOS and Android without relying on an external Wi-Fi network.

After entering the observing coordinates and completing the alignment procedure, the GoTo system can automatically slew to celestial objects contained in the SynScan database.

The dual-saddle design allows up to two telescopes to be mounted. Payload capacity is up to 6 kg when using one saddle and 10 kg total when both saddles are used.

The patented Freedom-Find dual-encoder technology also allows the mount to be moved manually on either axis without losing positional information. Users can therefore switch freely between manual movement and motorised GoTo control during an observing session.

Dual Saddle for One or Two Telescopes

The AZ-GTiX is designed to carry up to two telescopes simultaneously.

Payload capacity is up to 6 kg using one saddle and 10 kg total when both saddles are used.

The saddles accept standard 45 mm Sky-Watcher / Vixen-type dovetail bars.

An L-bracket with an additional saddle plate is supplied.

Freedom-Find Dual-Encoder Technology

Freedom-Find uses auxiliary encoders on both axes.

It allows the telescope to be moved manually in altitude or azimuth without the mount losing its positional information.

Motorised control and GoTo operation can then be resumed without repeating the alignment procedure.

Built-In Wi-Fi Control

The Wi-Fi module is integrated directly into the mount.

The AZ-GTiX creates its own Wi-Fi network and can therefore operate without relying on a router or local Internet connection.

Control is provided through the SynScan app on a smartphone or tablet.

A SynScan hand controller can also be used but is available separately.

SynScan Database

The SynScan app provides access to more than 10,000 celestial objects.

The database includes:

• 10,759 deep-sky objects
• Messier, NGC, IC and Caldwell catalogues
• Named deep-sky objects
• 305 named stars
• 55 double stars
• 7 planets
• Sun
• Moon

When working with compatible third-party planetarium software, the number of accessible objects is not limited to the SynScan database.

Alignment Methods

The SynScan app includes:

• Brightest Star Alignment
• North-Level Alignment

These methods allow the mount to be prepared quickly for automatic GoTo operation.

Additional SynScan Features

The app also provides:

• Tonight’s Best Sky Tour
• Point and Go with a mobile device
• Celestial object identification
• Remote control over the Internet
• User-defined objects
• Pointing Accuracy Enhancement PAE

Pointing Accuracy and Resolution

Stated pointing accuracy is up to 10 arc-minutes RMS.

Main resolution is 2,073,600 counts per revolution, corresponding to 0.625 arc-second.

The auxiliary axis encoders provide 1068 counts per revolution, equivalent to approximately 20 arc-minutes.

Dual-Axis Tracking

The AZ-GTiX provides motorised tracking on both axes.

Available tracking rates are:

• Sidereal
• Lunar
• Solar
• Alignment-Free Solar Tracking

Slewing Speeds

Available slewing speeds are:

• 0.5x
• 1x
• 8x
• 16x
• 32x
• 64x
• 128x
• 400x
• 800x

DC Servo Motors

The mount uses DC servo motors.

The stated gear ratio is 6480.

The mount is designed for quiet operation during slewing and tracking.

Connectivity

The mount provides:

• SynScan hand controller port
• DSLR shutter-release port
• Built-in Wi-Fi module

Optional cables are available separately for DSLR shutter control.

The mount is also compatible with the ASCOM platform for Windows PCs and mobile planetarium applications for iOS and Android, including SkySafari Plus and Pro.

Network communication uses UDP protocol on port 11880.

Standard 3/8-Inch Tripod Bush

The mount head features a standard 3/8-inch tripod bush for connection to a compatible tripod.

This version is supplied as a mount head only.

61 mm Extension Pillar

A 61 mm extension pillar is supplied with the AZ-GTiX.

It increases the distance between the mount and tripod according to the telescope configuration.

Power Requirements

The mount can operate from:

• 8 AA batteries
• External DC 7.5–14 V / 1 A power supply

External power polarity is centre positive.

Batteries are not supplied.
