DESCRIPTION
The ZWO AM5N is the second-generation version of ZWO’s first harmonic drive mount, featuring a strain wave gear mechanism commonly used in aerospace and robotics. This technology allows it to support up to 13 kg without counterweights and up to 20 kg with them, while keeping the mount head at only 5.5 kg—ideal for mobile setups.
Its 1:300 reduction drive ensures smooth, backlash-free tracking. Switching between equatorial and alt-azimuth modes is quick and easy, with adjustable polar elevation from 0° to 90°. Control is via the included joystick hand controller, via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi with the ZWO app, or using third-party software (ASCOM, EQMod, INDI). It's also fully compatible with ASIAIR and the entire ZWO ecosystem.
The AM5N improves upon the original AM5 with: a USB-C port, integrated DC power output, reduced periodic error (±10"), enhanced azimuth adjustment, better cable management, and a cold-weather optimized high-load mode.
The mount includes dual-axis motors for sidereal tracking, GOTO, manual slewing, and guiding. It delivers 0.5" to 0.8" arcsec accuracy, suitable for focal lengths up to ~1000 mm. Its design is optimized for portability and simplicity, with minimal balancing needs.
