The iOptron SkyGuider Pro is available in two configurations. Select your preferred version from the Configuration menu before adding the mount to your cart:
Without iPolar: supplied with an optical polar scope featuring a finely engraved reticle and adjustable illumination.
With iPolar: equipped with the built-in iPolar electronic polar finder for assisted polar alignment, including when the pole star is obscured.
Both versions offer the same core tracking functions described below. The main difference is the polar alignment system.
Compact and versatile design
The SkyGuider Pro mount head is compact enough to fit in the palm of your hand. It combines precise, silent tracking with a built-in rechargeable power source, an ST-4 guiding port and a camera trigger port.
The DEC mounting bracket allows you to balance a heavier camera and lens combination or mount a lightweight telescope. The optional 8408 hand controller allows you to check the pole star position for polar alignment, slew the mount, adjust the guiding rate, change mount settings and control the camera trigger.
Polar alignment according to your chosen configuration
The version without iPolar uses an optical polar scope with a finely engraved reticle and adjustable illumination at different brightness levels. An iOS app can assist with positioning the pole star in the reticle.
The version with iPolar uses an integrated electronic polar finder to assist with accurate polar alignment. This configuration offers a solution for users who find optical polar alignment difficult, particularly in the Southern Hemisphere or when the pole star is obscured.
Tracking modes
The SkyGuider Pro features four tracking rates: sidereal at 1X, 1/2X for combined sky and landscape photography, solar and lunar. All four tracking rates work in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
A quick slew mode, with forward and reverse movement, helps you reframe your image without changing the camera’s mounting position. Large levers on the quick-lock drive engagement system make it easy to engage the gears.
Adjustable mounting base
The removable alt-azimuth base features a precision bubble level, altitude degree markings and a built-in post for azimuth adjustment. The SkyGuider Pro head can also be mounted without its base directly onto a standard photographic tripod with a 1/4-inch or 3/8-inch thread.
Support for heavier equipment
The DEC mounting bracket package includes the DEC mounting bracket, counterweight shaft, counterweight and Vixen-type dovetail saddle. This equipment allows the SkyGuider Pro to support a heavier camera and lens combination or a lightweight telescope.
Whether you choose the optical polar scope version or the version with built-in iPolar, the SkyGuider Pro is designed for photographers interested in nightscapes and wide-field astrophotography.
