Player One Phoenix 7 x 50 mm Filter Wheel

Description

Designed for astrophotography systems using large unmounted filters, the Player One Phoenix 7 x 50 mm Filter Wheel provides seven positions dedicated to 50 mm unmounted filters.

It is compatible with Player One Poseidon, Zeus, Artemis and Ares series cameras, as well as Uranus PRO and Apollo PRO models.

With a body manufactured from 6061-T6 aluminium and a physical thickness of only 21 mm, it helps maintain a compact imaging train while providing a large optical aperture.

Seven Positions for 50 mm Unmounted Filters

The Phoenix 7 x 50 mm is designed exclusively for 50 mm unmounted filters.

Its clear aperture diameter is 49 mm. Player One states that this opening is larger than that of the Phoenix 7 x 2-inch wheel, helping to reduce vignetting when used with full-frame cameras.

Hall Sensor Positioning

Traditional filter wheels generally use an infrared sensor combined with a positioning hole. Positioning accuracy therefore depends directly on the size of this hole.

The Phoenix uses a different system. A magnet installed on the filter plate is detected by a Hall sensor, which identifies its centre precisely.

According to Player One, this solution provides better positioning accuracy than a conventional infrared sensor system.

Hybrid Stepper Motor

The filter plate is driven by a particularly thin hybrid stepper motor.

This motor provides smooth filter changes with very little vibration when moving between positions.

USB Type-C Connection

Data communication uses a USB Type-C port.

The compact dimensions of this connector contribute to the slim electronic section of the wheel and help maintain its physical thickness at only 21 mm.

M54 Threads on Both Sides

The body features an M54 × 0.75 thread on both sides.

This configuration simplifies integration into imaging trains using compatible cameras and accessories based on the same mechanical standard.

  Hall Sensing Technology

  Traditional infrared sensor scanning positioning hole to locate position, this way positioning accuracy depends on the size of the positioning hole, the smaller the hole, the higher the accuracy, but the diameter of the hole must have at least 1mm diameter, otherwise it is difficult to manufacture.  But if use magnet on filter plate, Hall sensor will detect the center of the magnet, the positioning accuracy is better than infrared sensor.
