Description

This used Starizona HyperStar C11 EdgeHD 11 in very good condition is designed for Celestron EdgeHD 279 mm Schmidt Cassegrain telescopes. It includes an optional 2 inch filter holder for direct use with imaging filters.

The HyperStar system replaces the secondary mirror and mounts on the Schmidt corrector plate. It provides optical correction normally handled by the secondary mirror using a multi element optical design. CCD or DSLR cameras are mounted at the front.

This setup transforms the telescope into a digital Schmidt system with a focal ratio of f1.9, a focal length of 540 mm, a 35 mm image circle and a 3.7 degree field of view. It allows full use of modern imaging sensors for wide field astrophotography.

The gain in brightness is significant. A 30 second exposure is equivalent to about 12 minutes at f10, reducing exposure time by a factor of about 25. This minimizes atmospheric turbulence effects and tracking errors, producing sharper images.

Short exposure times make equatorial mounts unnecessary. Imaging can be performed with simple tracking, including alt azimuth mounts, without noticeable field rotation for short exposures. Images can be stacked in post processing.

The system is compatible with Celestron EdgeHD telescopes equipped with FastStar. Installation involves removing the secondary mirror and replacing it with the HyperStar unit. Focusing is done using the primary mirror.

Removing the secondary mirror greatly reduces mirror shift during focusing. Image quality is comparable to RC astrophotography systems, with fine stars and good resolution.

This system is ideal for deep sky imaging, comet detection and wide field sky surveys. It also enhances narrowband imaging performance due to its high light throughput.
