ZWO ASI715MC
The ZWO ASI715MC camera features a Sony color sensor with nearly 8.5 million pixels (3864 x 2192 pixels), primarily intended for planetary imaging and secondarily for astrophotography of bright deep sky objects with small apparent size (such as planetary nebulae) using "lucky imaging" with short exposures.
Its very small pixels (1.45 microns) designate it as a planetary camera for high-resolution imaging.
With a quantum efficiency of 80%, this camera offers high-level performance. Its sensor is both sensitive and has a very low thermal noise level.
The acquisition speed reaches 45.1 frames per second at full resolution and 12-bit mode when connected via USB 3.0. The secret to this high acquisition and especially sensor readout speed lies in the 256 MB DDR3 buffer memory equipped on this camera.
This fast image acquisition technique can now also be applied to deep sky imaging: it is possible to obtain images minimally degraded by turbulence by capturing thousands of images with exposures of just a few seconds. After stacking during post-processing, you will obtain a bright and highly resolved final image. Short exposures are less affected by turbulence (which does not have time to take effect) and potential tracking errors from the mount. Both factors are amplified during traditional long exposures, degrading the final image.
The 256 MB DDR3 buffer memory also prevents image transfer dropouts from the camera to the computer. This ensures flawless transmission reliability, even with USB 2.0 connection. Having a USB 3.0 port on the computer provides even better performance.
This camera features an M42 female thread (M42 x 0.75) with a 31.75 mm (1.25") barrel and comes with an M42 to 31.75 mm adapter, allowing the camera to fit standard telescope and refractor eyepiece holders.
Finally, it can also be used as an autoguiding camera, as it is equipped with an ST4-compatible autoguide port and an autoguide cable.
The supplied 2-meter USB 3.0 cable connects the camera to a PC or Mac for image acquisition. One ST4-compatible autoguide cable is also included (see last photo for supplied accessories).
This camera also comes with a 2.1 mm fisheye lens, allowing meteor capture during systematic wide-field sky monitoring.
