The Celestron StarSense Explorer LT 80AZ is a refractor telescope that uses your smartphone to analyze star patterns overhead and guide you to visible celestial objects. The patented Lost in Space Algorithm compares live sky patterns to an internal database and the app shows onscreen arrows you follow until the bullseye turns green indicating the target is in the eyepiece.
StarSense Explorer works with Android 12 and newer and iOS 18 and newer including iPhone XR and above. Older phones may continue to run the app if already installed. The app offers tutorials and an interface suitable for beginners.
The 80 mm fully coated optics provide bright sharp images of planets nebulae star clusters double stars and terrestrial landscape using the included erect image diagonal. Eyepieces 25 mm and 10 mm and a 2x Barlow provide magnifications from 36x to 90x and up to 189x maximum useful. Aluminum tube length is 965 mm and weight 2.45 kg.
The manual altazimuth mount features a slow motion altitude adjustment with sliding rod and the full height steel tripod includes an accessory tray. The StarPointer red dot finder allows operation without the smartphone. Total kit weight is 4.17 kg making it portable for dark sites. Included software StarSense Explorer App SkyPortal and Celestron Starry Night Basic Edition.
