Description
The Explore Scientific Ultra Light Dobsonian 406 mm Generation II represents the pinnacle of the brand’s transportable reflector telescopes. This 16-inch Newtonian combines modern truss-tube architecture with an ultra-rigid aluminum build. Despite its large aperture, the structure is fully collapsible without tools, allowing easy transport and quick field deployment.
With over 3300 times the light-gathering power of the human eye, it is a powerful instrument for deep-sky observation, revealing stunning details in nebulae, galaxies, and star clusters. Its large altitude bearings provide smooth, backlash-free motion even at high magnifications. The optical tube assembly includes a BK-7 mirror in a newly improved mirror cell featuring radial fans for rapid thermal equalization. The mirror remains adjustable during use for precise collimation.
The 2" Crayford-style focuser with 10:1 micro-reduction enables accurate focusing. A long backfocus (45 mm from the 2" adapter, 35 mm with 1.25" reducer) makes this telescope suitable for coma correctors and a variety of accessories. Additional upgrades include a TEFLON/GFK bearing system, laser-marked primary center, reinforced altitude bearings with friction and locking system, and two 1 kg counterweights for precise balance.
Its durable powder-coated aluminum components prevent moisture-related deformation. The whole system disassembles into compact modules that fit even in small cars.
