DESCRIPTION
The Baader ASSF 150 mm filter is designed for safe solar viewing and photography using a spotting scope, telephoto lens, or amateur telescope. It features the certified AstroSolar Safety Film OD 5.0, mounted without tension in a reinforced plastic ring secured inside a CNC-machined aluminum cell. This construction preserves the film’s flatness and ensures minimal thermal expansion.
Unlike homemade filters where the film is stretched, the Baader assembly method allows slight ripples, ensuring true optical flatness for sharp and high-contrast images. This approach enables performance up to 120x magnification, far beyond typical DIY setups.
The filter is centered using three brass-threaded pins coated in ribbed rubber, allowing firm and precise placement over tube diameters from 168 to 218 mm. Adjustment scales and locking screws are included, along with a sliding cover to block stray light. It is delivered complete with safety straps, self-adhesive pads, mounting screws, and a rigid shipping box.
