Description:
The Baader Single Polarizing Filter 2" provides adjustable brightness control when used with a second polarizing filter or with a Herschel wedge. Ideal for high-contrast lunar and planetary observations, it minimizes glare and eye strain, delivering sharp and detailed views.
When combined with another filter (e.g., a 1.25" filter mounted on the eyepiece), rotating one against the other allows stepless brightness adjustment tailored to the magnification used. It is also perfectly suited for safe solar observation when used behind a Herschel wedge or in combination with an ND 5.0 AstroSolar Safety Film.
The filter is housed in a 15 mm double cell mount and features Phantom Coating® Group on optically polished surfaces to maximize light transmission across the full spectrum. Caution: this filter must never be used alone for solar observation. Always use proper front-end filtration like a Herschel wedge or AstroSolar film.
Technical specifications:
– Filter type: Single polarizer (neutral density)
– Thread: 2 inch (M48)
– Glass thickness: 2 mm
– Cell: Dual mount LPFC 6 mm – total height 15 mm
– Coating: Phantom Coating® on precision-polished optics
– Use: lunar, planetary, solar (with front-end filter)
– Net weight: 0.01 kg
– Transmission: full spectrum
Additional information:
The filter is sold individually. To adjust brightness, combine it with a second polarizing filter, unless used with a Herschel wedge which already polarizes light. For highest image quality, Baader recommends neutral density filters with fewer optical surfaces.
