QHY III 224c - USB3.0 CMOS Color Camera

The ALccd-QHY 5III 224 color uses the extremely low noise SONY 1/3inch CMOS sensor IMX224. Sony promotes this sensor as the one having the highest sensitivity in the line of small Sony sensors. At high gain settings, the readout noise as low (<1e) that this results in high sensitivity values. Thus weakest light signals can be recorded which are only just above the backgrpund noise. This property is necessary, for example, for high resolution planetary imaging with low aperture ratios.

It is ideal for short focal length optical systems and highest resolution. It is also an excellent camera for the sun, moon, planets and meteor photography, but also a low-noise and highly sensitive camera for deep sky photography.

With a standard C-mount lens 50mm f/1.4, you can reach stars of 8th to 9th magnitude live in a 1.280x960pix video stream with about 150 frames per second. This achieves a new dimension in the fast USB 3.0 video photography!

With a standard C-mount lens 50mm f/1.4, you can reach stars of 8th to 9th magnitude live in a video stream at 50 frames per second (about 20 ms exposure time). This offers a new dimension in high-sensitivity HD video photography!

Sensor and shutter

In the ALccd-QHY 5III 224, the built sensor works in "rolling shutter" mode. A new pixel technology allows highest sensitivity and quantum efficiency in the visible and infrared range of light. If you are looking for a very sensitive sensor for low-light applications (2000 mV or more at 1 micron^2 when a 706 cd / m2 light source F5.6 in 1 s exposure), then you are absolutely aright with this model.

The housing

The housing shape is designed so that the camera, like the proven ALccd-QHY 5-II models, fits into standard 1.25" focusers or adapters. The fins provide for a fast and selective dissipation of the heat which is produced during the exposure.

The back focus is minimal, so that the camera can also be used in most off-axis guiders for auto guiding. The Lemo connector on RJ12 is robust and compatible to most mount controllers on the market.

System requirements

The camera has an advanced electronics that makes a PC with USB 2.0 support necessary. The maximum performance can be reached only with a powerful USB 3.0 computer.

The operating software is Windows 7, 8 and 10 compatible and supported by 32- and 64-bit.
